During the mid summer months, it is harder to find outdoor subjects to photograph, not to mention the discomfort from the heat and bugs. When I do go out on a photo shoot, it is generally within close proximity of my truck. But sometimes, you can find the neatest things right outside your front door or at a local park. Here are some of my midsummer images.

Diane with her Day Care Kiddos keeping cool playing in the plastic pool on our deck (from left, Kyle, Anna, Ryan).

Smile for the camera! We came across an Ostrich farm just 20 minutes drive from our house down Route 50. The owner let us drive onto their property where I could capture intimate images of these funky birds, who followed me wherever I went (thank goodness there was a fence between us!).

Some colorful moths sucking the thistle nectar along the path at the habitat - a fifteen minute walk from our house in the middle of an exploding development of commercial buildings and townhouses.

At the same habitat, I finally captured some pictures of this strange weed while in bloom. I usually find them all dried up (see below picture I took several years ago in the same habitat), so this was a treat. Now all I need to do is find out what it is called. Anyone know?

This is a path at the Ellanor Lawrence Park in Chantilly, Virginia, just a ten minute drive from where I work. After discovering this beautiful 600 acre park, I go there sometimes during lunch to get away from my computer and tiny cubicle office and take a few photos.
